Senor Cabrales is a group of well-known and respected traditional musicians from Australia who have come together to share their love of the music of Asturias, Galicia and Brittany. The band's focus on fine multi-instrumental work, driving harmonic rythm and rich percussion produces a powerful, exciting and innovative sound which has thrilled festival audiences throughout Australia. All of the artists in the band have a long association with Celtic musical traditions in Australia, and their deep roots in Irish, Breton and Scottish music weave perfectly into their expression of the rich and beautiful musical traditions of "green Spain". This band is a must see for lovers of high quality traditional music. 
 
Highlander
 
 

If the sound of highland bagpipes stirs the blood and makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end - then ‘Highlander’ is a show not to be missed. ‘Highlander’ is an Australian five piece Celtic rock outfit whose unique sound has been wowing audiences of all ages with their electrifying high energy music. The powerful sound of the bagpipes matched with the dynamic vibrant sounds of the fiddle, electric and acoustic guitar compliment the powerhouse bass grooves, pulsating percussion and vocal harmonies. ‘Highlander’ has added their own theme to the jigs, reels and songs of Scotland, and occasionally gives some of the more classic rock songs a "spin" the Highlander way. Their original compositions are rich in melody and message. Always providing a show that is immensely dynamic and entertaining. This act is guaranteed to have audiences tapping their feet from start to finish.

One of the most popular bands ever to play at the Festival, this nine-piece Celtic band from Brisbane has gained a reputation for passion, energy and irreverence. Irish, Scottish, Australian, Breton and Galician music- they play it all! Guitars, fiddle, flute, bagpipes, banjo, percussion, keyboards, mandolin and rich vocal harmonies combine to produce a powerful, distinctive and unforgettable sound. The Pigs have performed at the world's largest Celtic festival - 'Festival Interceltique' in France as well as making many Australian appearances. We are fortunate to be able to feature this outstanding band in 2012, the Year of the Brittany and Galicia; acknowledging Asturias. Leaping Lizards

  

It is a pleasure to welcome Leaping Lizards back to the Australian Celtic Festival. This three person band clearly demonstrates the Celtic roots of much Australian Bush Music. Triple finalists & WINNER of 2011 Golden Fiddle Lifetime Achievement Award and WINNER of best group VIC Country Music Awards 2011 we are privileged to have them performing for 2012.  Come to the Festival to buy their new album "Shedding my Skin" and have the band sign your copy!
 
 Peter Miller
 

Queensland based finger-style guitarist Peter Miller is known in Australia and Ireland for his delicate touch and for his beautiful melodic sensibility.  Peter has toured Ireland and Europe on numerous occasions where he has shared the stage with legendary songwriter John Spillane.  His music has appeared world wide on Film and television and has been chosen for the new Irish film "Will's Diaries".  Peter's playing has a tasteful use of space, without being underplayed.  His live performances are a mixture of solo and layered guitar pieces.  Most of his playing style is of a Celtic and folk mix.  Be ready to be weaved into a magic spell and drawn in as Peter's music brings joy to life and makes us beleive we are in another place.

Pumpkin Juice - Celtic Fiddling Kids

We all love to see young children perform and these four young kids from Newcastle, Australia are a must see at the 2012 festival.  Gabi, Margot, Julius and Olivia all started to learn classical violin at an early age and are only aged between 7 and 12 years old.  Fast Scottish and Irish Jigs, Reels and Strathspeys are included in their repertoire.  Look out for Pumpkin Juice a sight and sound not to be missed.

Welders Dog

Tenterfield based Welder's Dog perform songs drawn from their own experiences and their diverse Celtic heritage.  The joys, sorrows, the injustices and the vulnerability of simply being human are the common themes their music explore.  Their songs are brought to life with their beautiful acoustic instrumentation, including dulcimer, amndola, bass recorder and accordian.

The Glen Innes Gaelic Choir, was formed in 2010 to address a perceived need for a revival of Gaelic culture in the Glen Innes Severn area.  The choir is under the auspices of the newly formed Caledonian and Celtic Society of Glen Innes and is a mixed - voice choir of eight members.  The choir has performed at Robert Burns Suppers, St Andrew's Day, St. Patrick's Day and St. David's Day Dinners, Bloomsdday Dinners and McGonagall Dinners.  Members have also sung at the Hogmanay Concert at the Woodford Folk Festival and at the Queensland Irish Association Pipe Band's Burns Night.  Whilist primarily singing in Gaidhlig, the choir also has a repertoire of songs from Ireland and Wales as well as Galicia.  The choir proudly performs in the Glen Innes District Tartan.

 Vincent Redal

 
Vincent’s performance has his own unique style, which is very strong rhythmically with a  rootsy sound, reflecting colourful harmonies and textures. Bringing a wealth of crossover influences from Flamenco, Blues, Celtic and Latin into guitar instrumentals and song.
Vincent guitar playing will appeal to a wide audience that is sure to thrill and entertain.

The Biggest Little Town Choir

Wild Thyme Hippies hailing from Mullimbimby with wild and warm voices make this group a awakening experience. Unaccompanied and unplugged but full of life, Biggest Little Town Choir have been known to audiences focussing on nothing but their voices and lifting sentiment.

 Folklore

Exquisite instrumentation brings together four fine musicians to explore the songs and music of folk tradition with particular emphasis on Irish, Scottish and Australian origins.

Kevin Kelly

Kevin Kelly's unique talent of breathing new life into musical rhythm demonstrates his rare talent as an emotive and captivating performer, especially when playing the bodhran.

 The Mic Travers Band

An original outfit performing the songs and misuc of Mic Travers, a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with some 20 years experience playing arounfd Australia. Other band members include Dave Hoffman on tenor saxophone and yougest member, Erin Roberts playing the violin and viola.

 Spirit of the Glen

Glen Innes based duo Skye McKenny and Col Pike share a life-long love of folk music. Their vocal harmonies and selection of instruments compliment an extensive repertoire including Celtic, traditional, original and contemporary folk songs and tunes.

Tellen Tri

Interweaving an interesting blend of old and new melodies signifies this duos obvious passion for the music they play, as they draw inspiration from traditional Irish, Scottish and Breton song.

 Taliska

Familiar faces from previous festivals have joined forces to form Taliska in order to bring you the much loved music of the Scottish Isles. Their performances have been known mesmerize audiences as they weave musical magic from songs with soaring harmonies beofre roaring enthusiastically to life with their sprightly, foot-tapping jigs and reels.

Wheelers & Dealers

 One of the most popular bands on the Australian folk circuit, Wheelers and Dealershave developed a reputation for quality. Their repertoire is drawn from Celtic tunes and songs in their traditional and contemporary forms therefore developing the bands own unique sound.

Wirrycow

Wirrycow is a Celtic group based in Armidale, NSW, whose combined talents have established a heightened degree of musicianship. Their sensitive yet enticing performances demonstrate how high a regard each band member has for the music they play.
