A feature of the 2012 Australian Celtic Festival is the "Dance Spectacular" held both Saturday and Sunday on the Ruby Stage.
Cape Byron Celtic Dance & Shawn Silver
Shawn Silver is a native Newfoundlander from a strong traditional dance background. At this years festival he will be performing and promoting traditional Celtic dance and culture as a performer with Cape Byron Celtic Dance, a school dedicated to Scottish and Irish dancing.
Glenmore Highland Dancers
Ranging from the ages of 7 to 14 years, members of the local Glenmore Highland Dancers enjoy performing traditional highland and Irish dancing for their local and festival communities. The group has been showcasing their talents at the Australian Celtic Festival for the past 18 years.
Glen Squares
This local group of Square Dancers have been a popular feature at the the festival since 2009. Performing energetic jigs backed my celtic music is a not to be missed spectacle throughout the festival. They will also be performing at 12.30pm, Friday May 4th in front of the Glen Innes Town Hall before the official opening at 2.30pm.
Hunter Welsh Folk Dancers
With dances ranging from simple to complicated and energetic to sedate, the members of the Hunter Cymreig Dawnswers, also known as the Hunter Welsh Folk Dancers aim to promote and revive the little known graceful and charming traditional folk dances of Wales. Many of the group members have up to 14 years experience in performing and workshopping and have exhibited their talents at numerous festivals over the years, including the Australian Celtic Festival.
Lismore Celtic
One of the most popular dance performances last year, Lismore Celtic provides colour, energy and the pulsating percussion of Irish hard shoe routines. At this years festival to celebrate the Year of Brittany and Galicia; acknowledging Asturias, Lismore Celtic will be adding a touch of French and Spanish to their Irish routine, highlighting the proximity and influence between these nearby Celtic neighbours.
Souleiado French Dance Group
At the last Year of Brittany and Galicia Australian Celtic Festival this group were guest of honour, performing dances from many regions of France. Souleiado's presentation of authentic Breton dance, music and costumes is accompanied by two Breton women being members of the group along with other members having visited Brittany on several occassions. Their skill, knowledge and beautiful presentation of Breton dance is always in demand at Celtic festivals all around Australia.
Sydney Irish Ceili Dancers
During their performances, the Sydney Irish Ceili Dancers take audiences on a whirlwind tour of Ireland, visiting the various villages and counties which are home to the dances performed. The current leaders Margaret and Bill Winnet have danced with the group for almost its entire existance, making many visits to Ireland in order to learn traditional dances and bring them back to Australia. Thier hard work and dedication has resulted in a visual delight for audiences as the group promtoes the traditional dances of Ireland.
Oye Ritmo Spanish Dance
As their name suggests, this troop of dancers execute a spectacular performance of traditional Galician Spanish dance, with several members of the group being of Galician parents but thats not all. Their diverse and extensive repertoire also includes classical Spanish dance, spiritual Folk and fiery Flamenco. 2012 will mark Oye Ritmo's 4th year at the Australian Celtic Festival.
