Celtic Yard Dog Trials 2009

This will be our 11th year operating at the Australian Celtic Festival. The concept of having a Yard Dog Trial at the Festival was two fold – one to allow visitors more ‘country experience’ while at the Standing Stones and two, to recognise the contribution made by dogs to the management of stock. Scotland and Wales were two of the first countries in the world to use dogs for mustering.

During the weekend, we hold three events, the Maiden which is held for dogs who have never won a trial before, Novice that allows dogs who have won a Maiden to compete and then onto the Opens, which is for any dog that has won all sections previously.

The Glen Innes Veterinary Hospital Maiden starts at 8am on Saturday and the Dom’s Diesel Novice Trial after lunch Saturday, then the finals are held in the afternoon. Sunday is the Landmark Open Trial that will begin at 8am. All spectators are welcome, bring a chair and a hat and sit and enjoy the camaraderie between man and his dog.
