Moree Caledonian Society Pipes & Drums

Armidale Pipe Band

Moree Caledonian Pipes and Drums has a long tradition of sharing their love of Scottish music with the communities of western NSW – keeping the Celtic spirit alive!

During the 1950s and 60s the band had some twenty pipers and ten drummers, resplendent in full regimental uniform of kilt, horsehair sporran, spats and busby. Not only were they known as a fine competitive band in the district but most surely, the frequent 100+ degrees would also test their stamina.

A smaller band continued to fly the flag for Moree from the 1970s with Andrew Mack, Ian Holder, John Brassel and the late Paul Assef and Tommy Blackburn all playing key roles. Most recently, the band’s senior members – pipers Tim and Andrew and drummer, Nathan have nurtured several young pipers and drummers who keenly turn out for events.

Current Piper Major, Tim Tesoriero has recently returned from two years living in Scotland, attending the Glasgow School of Piping where he was mentored by some of Scotland’s finest pipers.

It is with great pleasure that the Moree Caledonian Pipes and Drums will again attend the Glen Innes Celtic Festival, proudly wearing the MacPherson tartan and enjoying the hospitality of the New England folk.
